DEFINITIONS

For the purposes of this policy, the following definitions apply:

Definition of a Disruption of Instruction (Non-Routine)

A non-routine disruption of instruction is any unexpected student or adult behavior or incident that significantly interferes with the learning environment and requires immediate intervention beyond standard classroom management. These disruptions hinder the teacher’s ability to deliver instruction or the students’ ability to engage in learning. Examples may include, but are not limited to, repeated loud outbursts, physical aggression, defiance requiring removal from the classroom, or actions that pose a safety risk. Such incidents will prompt a note or communication home to families of students in the affected classroom from teacher or administrator.

Escalation to School-Wide Notification

If the disruption extends beyond an individual classroom and impacts the broader school community — such as triggering a building-wide safety protocol (e.g., lockdown, evacuation), involving emergency services, or causing a substantial interruption to the daily schedule — a school-wide notification will be sent to all families. This communication will provide appropriate information while maintaining student confidentiality, and will be issued. During disruptions of instruction that involve criminal activity impacting the school, law enforcement may delay or control the communication being sent home.
